What's covered

Your car insurance, no fine print

Some coverages are required by Nevada law, others add real peace of mind. Here's everything you can include in your policy, explained plainly:

🛡️
Required

Liability

Covers damage you cause to other people and vehicles when you're at fault. It's the minimum coverage required by Nevada law.

🚗

Collision

Pays to repair your own vehicle if you hit another car or an object — regardless of who was at fault.

🔥

Comprehensive

Protects you from theft, vandalism, fire, hail, broken glass, animal collisions and other non-collision damage.

⚠️

Uninsured Motorist

If the at-fault driver has no insurance (common in NV), this pays your damages and medical bills. Always recommended.

🏥

Medical Payments / PIP

Covers medical expenses for you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of fault. Useful if your health insurance is weak.

🛠️

Roadside Assistance

Flat tire, fuel delivery, dead battery, tow to the shop. A few extra dollars a month saves you real headaches.

What the law requires

Nevada legal minimums for 2026: 25/50/20

In July 2018 Nevada raised its liability minimums. Any policy issued in the state must meet at least these three numbers:

$25,000
Per person
Maximum bodily injury liability per person injured in an at-fault accident.
$50,000
Per accident
Maximum total bodily injury liability across everyone injured in the accident.
$20,000
Property damage
Repair of the other party's vehicle or property (fences, poles, structures).

These are legal minimums, not the coverage we recommend. A serious accident with injuries can easily exceed $100,000 and the gap comes out of your pocket. Most of our clients carry 100/300/50 for a few dollars more per month. Source: Nevada DMV.

Special cases

We insure you when others say no

Many big-name insurers reject tougher profiles or quote absurd rates. We also work with non-standard carriers that specialize in these cases — and find reasonable prices other agencies don't bother to look for.

SR-22

Same-day SR-22 filing

After a no-insurance ticket, DUI or accident, the DMV requires SR-22 to restore your license. We file it today with carriers that accept your profile without inflating the price.

ITIN

No Social Security number (ITIN)

You don't need an SSN to insure your car in Nevada. We work with carriers that accept ITIN or international driver licenses. Newly arrived, work permit, doesn't matter — we quote.

WhatsApp →
Rough record

Tickets, DUI or past accidents

Got hit with a rate hike or policy cancellation? You're not alone. Specialty carriers offer reasonable prices for high-risk profiles if you know who to ask. We do.

FAQ

What clients ask us most

If your question isn't here, call us or message us on WhatsApp. We answer in plain English or Spanish, no jargon.

Do I need an SSN to get car insurance in Nevada?
No, it’s not required. At Express Insurance we work with several carriers that accept ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) or international driver licenses. If you live and drive in Nevada, we can quote you a valid policy even without a Social Security number.
What happens if I drive without insurance in Nevada?
Penalties are steep: fines between $250 and $1,000 for the first offense, license and registration suspension, and a mandatory SR-22 to get back on the road. On top of that, if you cause an accident uninsured you are personally liable for all damages — wages and assets can be garnished. Getting insured is far cheaper than a single accident.
How much does basic car insurance cost in Reno?
A Liability-only policy at Nevada’s legal minimums (25/50/20) typically starts around $50–$80 per month, depending on your driving record, age, vehicle and ZIP code. Younger drivers or those with violations pay more. We quote for free so you see your real price in minutes, not estimates.
How fast does my policy activate after I buy it?
In most cases coverage starts the same day you sign and make your first payment. We send your digital insurance card instantly so you can show it at the DMV or to law enforcement if pulled over. The physical card arrives by mail in 7–10 days.
What is an SR-22 and when do I need one?
An SR-22 is a certificate your insurance carrier files with the State of Nevada to prove you carry the minimum required coverage. It’s required for drivers with DUI, driving uninsured, serious accidents or a suspended license. At Express Insurance we file SR-22 the same day and work with specialized carriers so your rate doesn’t skyrocket.
Does my insurance cover me if I let a family member borrow my car?
Usually yes, as long as that person has a valid license and lives with you or borrows the car occasionally. If they’ll drive it regularly, the right move is to add them as a secondary driver to avoid problems if there’s an accident. We review this with you at no cost.
Can I switch carriers even if I already have an active policy?
Yes! And you usually get a refund of the unused portion of your previous payment. At Express Insurance we handle the paperwork: we compare your current policy with 10+ carriers, find you a better price if it exists, activate the new policy and cancel the old one — you don’t have to do anything.
What if I have an accident that wasn’t my fault?
The at-fault driver’s insurance should cover your damages and medical expenses. But watch out: if the other party has no insurance (common in NV) or insufficient coverage, your Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage kicks in. That’s why we always recommend adding it to your policy — it’s inexpensive and protects you from what you can’t control.
